About this tool

Cut a section out of a video by setting start and end times. Stream-copy mode keeps the original quality and is nearly instant - perfect for chopping the boring intro off a screen recording, isolating a clip from a long camera take, or preparing a single highlight from a Zoom recording.

Privvert's video trimmer is browser-based via FFmpeg-WebAssembly, so confidential client footage, raw interview takes and personal videos never get uploaded. You can choose between fast lossless stream-copy or precise re-encode trimming when you need cuts at exact frames.

Features

  • Stream-copy mode: instant, lossless, no re-encoding
  • Re-encode mode: frame-accurate cuts at the cost of speed
  • Reads MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and most other containers
  • Preserves audio in sync with video
  • Decimal-second start/end inputs (e.g. 12.5)
  • Browser-only - your footage never leaves your device
  • No file size cap beyond your browser's memory

How to use it

  1. Drop in a video file.
  2. Set start and end times in seconds.
  3. Pick stream-copy (fast, lossless) or re-encode (slow, frame-accurate).
  4. Click Trim and download the result.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't my cut frame-accurate?

Stream-copy can only cut at keyframes (typically every 1-10 seconds). Switch to re-encode mode for exact frames at the cost of processing time and a small generational quality loss.

Does stream-copy reduce quality?

No - it copies the existing video and audio bytes directly without decoding or re-encoding. The output is bit-identical to the source within the trimmed range.

Will the audio stay in sync?

Yes. Both modes preserve A/V sync; in stream-copy mode the audio is also trimmed at the nearest aligned point.

Can I trim multiple sections?

This tool extracts one continuous section. To stitch multiple sections, trim each one and then use the video merge tool.
